Septic Repair in Acushnet MA

Septic Preservation Services have a septic repair scheduled today for a customer in Acushnet MA. We are replacing their distribution Box (D-Box). A D-Box is exactly as it sounds it’s a box that moves, or distributes treated wastewater from your septic tank into your leach field or drain field. It must be level and installed correctly or your watewater will not distribute evenly across your leach field and this can lead to over saturation and clogging which is not desirable. The d-box we are replacing was damaged when heavy equipment was mistakenly parked on top of it which broke and moved it. We have found that many property owners with septic systems while they know they have a septic tank sometimes forget that the leachfield and d-box are also essential parts of their septic system and must also be maintained. Here are a few simple tips to help you look after all parts of your septic system:

  • Minimize the use of the garbage disposal
  • Do not put grease down your drains
  • Spread loads of laundry out over time rather than doing multiple loads in a short period of time, and use liquid detergents rather than powdered detergents
  • Avoid excessively long showers
  • Avoid leaving tap water running when shaving, brushing teeth or doing other personal or household tasks
  • Do not flush medications, harmful chemicals, excessive amounts of bleach, harsh drain cleaners or degreasers
  • Have the septic tank pumped at least every three years
  • Do not add any septic systems cleaners, enzymes or additives
  • Remove water conditioning backwash discharges from the septic system
  • Do not plant trees and shrubs over leach fields
  • Do not flush personal products, paper towels, wipes or diapers
  • Do not clean or rinse paint brushes in the sinks
  • Equip all hot tubs, spas, whirlpool baths, etcetera with drain limiting valves that will only allow five gallons per minute to drain from fixture
  • Do not drive vehicles over leach fields

We also have septic repairs scheduled in Norton, Stoughton, Canton and Taunton MA and some of these repairs could have been avoided by following the above advice. If you have any questions about your septic system or if you need a septic repair please do contact our Norton office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Did you Know Cold Weather Can Result In Septic Repairs Being Necessary?

Septic Preservation Services know that septic problems arise whatever the weather is doing and septic breakdowns or concerns sometimes require septic repairs. However cold weather brings its own set of problems for example:

  • If you have a ‘summer home’ or go away and leave your property for periods of time or just use it part of the week wastewater does not enter the system regularly enough and can freeze
  • If you drive over your septic leach field or drainfield you compact your soil. Compacted soil freezes more easily which can result in damage and possibly a failing septic system. If it is snowy and you drive over the snow on your system the snow will then provide less insulation for your septic system than snow which has been left untouched
  • If you don’t have enough vegetative cover over your septic system you have less insulation from the cold
  • Leaks in your plumbing release water into the septic which can then freeze
  • Poor pipe drainage can be caused by deteriorated pipes, if they are full or back filled with soil or poorly installed. Liquid will pool on one side and can then freeze

Essentially the cold can lead to your septic system freezing which leads to problems, possible repairs and even septic failures. Ironically snow falling is a good thing. Fresh snow is an excellent insulator. As it gets compacted it becomes less effective but it is better than a complete lack of snow cover, dry soil conditions or very cold air temperatures for an extended period of time which will all contribute to septic problems. Today we have appointments in Canton, Stoughton, Sharon, Hingham, Scituate and Hanover MA for septic repairs, some of which are caused by septic system owners not planning for the cold weather. If you have any questions about septic system or need to have a septic repair please do contact our Norton Office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Leach Field Repair with the Installation of a White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator

Septic Preservation Services have been contacted by a property owner in Attleboro MA who has a leach field problem which has been caused by it becoming clogged with the excessive amount of organic matter that has been passed to it from their septic tank. We will repair their leach field without needing to replace it with the installation of a White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator.

In nature, oxygen-using (aerobic) bacteria in the soil consume non-living organic material. This is the process nature uses to “recycle” wastes. We install the White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator in the septic tank to create an oxygen rich environment and cultivate an extensive colony of these same soil bacteria.

The result is nearly complete consumption of the organic materials entering the septic tank. At the same time, the bacteria are carried into the leach field where they consume the organic material that has accumulated in the underlying soil. The leach field regains and/or maintains its capacity to deliver effluent to the soil for purification.

The White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator includes:

  • An installation costs thousands of dollars less than that of a replacement leach field
  • Minimal disruption to existing landscape
  • Protection of the environment
  • Significantly longer tank pumping interval
  • Conservation of natural resources
  • 100% component and limited lifetime performance warranty

We have other septic repairs also scheduled today in Norton, Mansfield, Stoughton, Sharon, Canton and Foxboro MA.

Title 5 Septic Inspections Made As Easy As Possible

Septic Preservation Services know that selling property can be a stressful process and if you have a septic system that is just one more thing that has to be organised. That is because in Massachusetts you are required to have a valid Title 5 Septic Inspection before you can transfer Title on a property. Septic inspections are generally valid for 2 years so unless you bought your property recently you will probably need to organize an inspection. For more infomation see the Mass Gov Website.

We therefore try to make the inspection process as painless as possible by arranging the inspection as suits your schedule, where at all possible. We will be punctual and professional while providing you with a thorough septic inspection. Today we have Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled in Sharon, Foxboro, Stoughton, Canton and Bridgewater MA. If you require a Title 5 Septic Inspection or if you have any questions about septic inspections or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 877-378-4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Understand What Your Title 5 Septic Inspection Will Entail

Septic Preservation Services has Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled today in Hingham, Holliston, Millis, Canton, Sharon, Foxboro, and Stoughton MA. We have found that the majority of our Title 5 Inspections are carried out for property owners who are selling that property. In many instances they have never sold a property with a septic system before and therefore have no idea what to expect to happen when their inspection is carried out. When you have a Title 5 Septic Inspection this is what is included:

  • General layout of the system components (location of the building sewer, septic tank or cesspool, distribution box and leaching field);
  • Type of use (e.g., house, school, retail space), Title 5 design flow, and whether the facility is presently occupied;
  • Analysis of the criteria specified in Title 5 that indicate system failure, and, for large systems, those which indicate threats to public health and the environment;
  • Water use records from the previous two years, if available;
  • A description of the septic tank, including its condition, approximate age, thickness of grease/scum layer, and other relevant information;
  • A characterization of the distribution box and dosing tanks with pumps, if any, such as condition and evidence of solids carryover or backup; and
  • The condition of the soil absorption system including, any signs of hydraulic failure.

The system needs to be inspected under normal conditions so the septic system should not be pumped prior to an inspection which is a common mistake that property owners make thinking the system needs to be empty to be inspected. If you need to arrange a Title 5 Inspection or if you have any questions about septic systems or septic inspections please do contact our Norton office on 877-378-4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Summer Storms Are Not A Problem For Title 5 Septic Inspections

Septic Preservation Services are enjoying the summer and sunshine. However in New England summer storms are as much a part of the season as sun and sand. It is something that we are all used to and potentially stormy days like today do not stop us working. Today we have Title 5 Septic Inspections in Canton, Sharon, Stoughton, Foxboro, Millis and Franklin MA. However should a septic inspection not be able to take place the state of Massachusetts makes allowances:

“If weather conditions prevent an inspection before a sale, Title 5 allows the inspection to be done up to 6 months afterwards, provided that the seller notifies the buyer in writing of the need to complete the inspection.”

If we do find that we have to rearrange an inspection we will endeavour to find a time and date that is convenient to your timeline and schedule.

If you need to have a Title 5 Septic Inspection or if you have any questions about septic systems or septic inspections please do contact our Norton Office on 877-378-4279 or visit the Septic Preservation website.

Septic Cleaning and Septic Pumping In Lakeville MA

Septic Preservation Services have been called out to a customer property in Lakeville MA to provide septic cleaning and pumping. Septic pumping will remove all of the sludge from the property’s septic tank which can not be processed like the liquid waste is. However septic cleaning takes the pumping one step further and ensures that their septic system is not just pumped but it is also cleaned. We utilize specialized miniature equipment to locate specific areas of their system, such as a sewer cam which is used to investigate the inside of the sewer lines, and jetting equipment to clean the pipes within the leach field. When you have your septic system cleaned and pumped you are improving the efficiency of your system and making sure that it will keep running smoothly until your next pump out is due. Septic pumping is usually required every 3-5 years but this can vary depending on a variety of factors such as the size of the tank and the amount of wastewater that is being processed. If you have a garbage disposal you will need a septic pump out annually. Today we have additional septic cleaning and septic pumping appointments in Mansfield, Sharon, Stoughton, Canton and West Bridgewater MA. If you require septic pumping or septic cleaning or if you are unsure and have questions please do contact our Norton office on 877-378-4279 or visit https://www.septicpreservation.com
