Septic Preservation Services know that a property does not need to be way out in the countryside to need to have a septic system. Before I moved into a home with a septic system I had certainly always just assumed that if a property was in a town or city it would be on town sewer. However I lived in two homes in the city of Attleboro MA both of which were certainly not in the countryside and both of which had septic systems because they were not on town sewer. I discovered that this was not unusual and definitely not the daunting prospect it first seemed when my realtor mentioned it. Increasingly as more and more property is built in New England the number that do not have access to town sewer is rising. Therefore the number of septic installations for new properties is also increasing. Septic Preservation Services certainly carry out many septic system installations in the region each year and the number is steadily growing. We also provide the septic engineering which is required before an installation can take place including septic design, soil testing and perc tests. An essential part of a septic system is the leach field and the soil in the leach area needs to be sufficiently permeable so that it can readily absorb the liquid effluent flowing into it. A site must also not have soil that is too permeable, allowing the effluent to reach the groundwater before it is fully treated. Very steep slopes are also unsuitable for a conventional leach field. In addition there must be at least a few feet of good soil from the bottom of the leach pipes to the rock or impervious hardpan below, or to the water table. The perc test provides the data to determine the suitability of a site for a septic system. In general, soils with high sand and gravel content drain the best and soils with a high clay content or solid rock are the worst. Most soils fall somewhere in the middle with a mix of course sand and gravel particles, small silt particles and tiny clay particles. Septic Preservation Services are experienced working with both commercial and residential customers in this region. This is important because the septic system for a busy restaurant will necessarily be different to one for a small seasonal holiday cottage. Both of these customers septic systems will work on the same basic principles however. A conventional septic system consists of a septic tank, a distribution box and a drainfield. Your septic system treats your household wastewater by temporarily holding it in the septic tank where heavy solids and lighter scum are allowed to separate from the wastewater. The solids stored in the tank are decomposed by bacteria and later pumped out. After partially treated wastewater leaves the tank, it flows into a distribution box, which separates this flow evenly into a network of drainfield trenches. Drainage holes at the bottom of each line allow the wastewater to drain into gravel trenches for temporary storage. This effluent then slowly seeps into the subsurface soil where it is further treated and purified. The size and system itself will have variances however which will be specific to the requirements of our customer. These will vary depending on a variety of factors including the environment, the use of the system and budget of our client. Septic Preservation Services had its monthly safety meeting today. The safety of our employees and customers is of the utmost importance to us so we ensure that we stay ahead of safety training, safety procedures and that our equipment is safe and our employees know how to use it correctly. Even though it is raining today part of our safety commitment is ensuring that our staff are safe whatever the weather so today our meeting covered heat stress and sun exposure training to ensure that our staff know how to work safely when the sun does show itself. We also focused on trailer safety for open, closed and equipment trailers including correct loading, tie down and visual inspections. We had technicians attend the meeting at our Norton Office and also join remotely from our Biddeford Maine office.
