Septic Repairs and Septic Improvements Provided Including a Septic Alarm

Septic Preservation Services are experienced working with septic systems and because we have extensive knowledge of septic systems we can use this to diagnose septic problems, to find the source of the issue and to carry out a septic repair, when required. Today we are installing a septic alarm for a customer in Hingham MA who wants to have this safeguard in place to notify them if they have a septic issue that needs to be addressed. This septic alarm is required because their septic system has a septic pump which moves wastewater from the septic tank to the drain field or leach field. If the septic pump is not operating correctly the septic alarm will turn on. We also have an appointment for a customer in Westport MA who has noticed that their septic alarm is on and they need a septic specialist to locate the problem and fix their septic system. We have extensive experience repairing and replacing septic pumps including Blue Diamond, Hiblow and FujiClean pumps. If you require a septic repair, septic improvement or have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Septic Alarm installed in Hingham MA

Septic Preservation Services are installing a septic alarm for a customer in Hingham, MA today. Many modern and alternative septic systems have alarms to notify the homeowner of a potential problem. Though it can be annoying when the system alarms and you are forced to think about your septic system, this could prevent the system from backing up into your house. A high water alarm is caused by either too much water going into the tank or not enough going out. A high water alarm if not properly addressed will cause septic waste to ultimately back up into your house, though that may occur after your drainfield is fully damaged. An alarm could also be to notify you that your septic pump has failed. The basic design of a septic tank will only work if the sludge is not too thick on the bottom and the grease and scum is not too thick on top, and if the flow to the tank is not excessive. If there is too much waste on the bottom of the tank or too much water flowing to the tank, there will not be enough time for the solids and liquids to settle out before the tank starts releasing water containing large amounts of fecal waste to the drain field. The fecal waste will over time clog the drainfield. Also, if there is too much grease and scum floating on top, the scum will be released to the drainfield. A septic system is not a trash can. Don’t put dental floss, feminine hygiene products, condoms, diapers, cotton swabs, cigarette butts, coffee grounds, cat litter, paper towels, latex paint, pesticides, or other hazardous chemicals into your system because they can end up clogging the filter and/or lines if carried from the tank. Therefore, although it can be annoying, a septic alarm is essential to give you advance warning that you have a septic problem. Our customer has wisely chosen to install a septic alarm to ensure that they have advance warning of a septic problem. We have provided other septic system improvements including the addition of risers and covers to customers in Norton, Attleboro, Lakeville and Bridgewater recently. If you would be interested in having a septic alarm installed, if you have a septic alarm going off or would be interested in other septic system improvements please do contact our Norton office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Did you Know Cold Weather Can Result In Septic Repairs Being Necessary?

Septic Preservation Services know that septic problems arise whatever the weather is doing and septic breakdowns or concerns sometimes require septic repairs. However cold weather brings its own set of problems for example:

  • If you have a ‘summer home’ or go away and leave your property for periods of time or just use it part of the week wastewater does not enter the system regularly enough and can freeze
  • If you drive over your septic leach field or drainfield you compact your soil. Compacted soil freezes more easily which can result in damage and possibly a failing septic system. If it is snowy and you drive over the snow on your system the snow will then provide less insulation for your septic system than snow which has been left untouched
  • If you don’t have enough vegetative cover over your septic system you have less insulation from the cold
  • Leaks in your plumbing release water into the septic which can then freeze
  • Poor pipe drainage can be caused by deteriorated pipes, if they are full or back filled with soil or poorly installed. Liquid will pool on one side and can then freeze

Essentially the cold can lead to your septic system freezing which leads to problems, possible repairs and even septic failures. Ironically snow falling is a good thing. Fresh snow is an excellent insulator. As it gets compacted it becomes less effective but it is better than a complete lack of snow cover, dry soil conditions or very cold air temperatures for an extended period of time which will all contribute to septic problems. Today we have appointments in Canton, Stoughton, Sharon, Hingham, Scituate and Hanover MA for septic repairs, some of which are caused by septic system owners not planning for the cold weather. If you have any questions about septic system or need to have a septic repair please do contact our Norton Office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Do You Know Why A D-Box Replacement Is Essential If Yours Is Not Working Correctly?

Septic Preservation Services know that most people would not know what all the parts of a septic system are, let alone what they do, even if they have a septic system servicing their own property. And that is perfectly normal, especially if you have a company such as Septic Preservation Services to rely upon to give you septic support when you need it. Today we have a D-Box replacement scheduled for a customer in Hingham MA. This is an essential septic repair because your D-Box is a very important part of your septic system. The D-Box is not there to support an A, B and C Box as we have been asked before. D-Box stands for ‘Distribution Box’ and does exactly what you might expect. The distribution box is a component of the leach field system. The job of the distribution box is to evenly distribute the wastewater into the leach field (also known as the drain field). How does the septic distribution box work? Gravity plays a major role in helping the distribution box do its job. The water flows downhill where the distribution box is placed. This allows the water to flow into the box from the septic tank and then onto the leach field. Once the wastewater flows out of the septic tank it will move into the septic distribution box and out to the leach field lines. The size and shape of the box depends on the type of septic tank you have. A distribution box is most commonly made out of concrete or plastic and has several openings for the leach field lines where the wastewater can flow out. The distribution box is a major part of the septic system and it being able to function properly is very important. If the distribution box isn’t working correctly you will soon be dealing with leach field failure. Distribution boxes are most often worn down by time due to weather, like flooding and freezing, and improper care of the septic system. We will be able to provide a D-box replacement for our client before it caused any lasting damage to their leach field. We also have other septic repairs scheduled today in Hingham, Norwell, Scituate, Marshfield, Hanover and Hanson MA. If you require a D-Box replacement or septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 877 378 4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services

Understand What Your Title 5 Septic Inspection Will Entail

Septic Preservation Services has Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled today in Hingham, Holliston, Millis, Canton, Sharon, Foxboro, and Stoughton MA. We have found that the majority of our Title 5 Inspections are carried out for property owners who are selling that property. In many instances they have never sold a property with a septic system before and therefore have no idea what to expect to happen when their inspection is carried out. When you have a Title 5 Septic Inspection this is what is included:

  • General layout of the system components (location of the building sewer, septic tank or cesspool, distribution box and leaching field);
  • Type of use (e.g., house, school, retail space), Title 5 design flow, and whether the facility is presently occupied;
  • Analysis of the criteria specified in Title 5 that indicate system failure, and, for large systems, those which indicate threats to public health and the environment;
  • Water use records from the previous two years, if available;
  • A description of the septic tank, including its condition, approximate age, thickness of grease/scum layer, and other relevant information;
  • A characterization of the distribution box and dosing tanks with pumps, if any, such as condition and evidence of solids carryover or backup; and
  • The condition of the soil absorption system including, any signs of hydraulic failure.

The system needs to be inspected under normal conditions so the septic system should not be pumped prior to an inspection which is a common mistake that property owners make thinking the system needs to be empty to be inspected. If you need to arrange a Title 5 Inspection or if you have any questions about septic systems or septic inspections please do contact our Norton office on 877-378-4279 or visit Septic Preservation Services
